Austin Film Festival (AFF) furthers the art and craft of filmmaking by inspiring and championing the work of screenwriters, filmmakers, and all artists who use the language of film, television, theatre, and new media to tell a story. AFF is dedicated to providing unique cultural events and services, enhancing public awareness and participation and encouraging long lasting community partnerships. The Austin Film Festival is a not-for-profit 501c3 corporation.

Job Descriptions

Development Intern: AFF is seeking interns to work in the Development Department on a variety of daily tasks and projects that will assist in fundraising for the festival, helping build partnerships with corporate clients, aiding in the execution of networking events, and maintaining sponsor and partner relations.

Conference Intern: During the Conference, Creative interns will have the unique opportunity to act as Room Mangers for Conference events, allowing them to interact with and host our renowned panelists and moderators, manage a space, and gain access to more Conference content than any of our other volunteer or internship positions.

Office Management Intern: An Office Management intern will assist the Office Manager in maintaining an efficient office environment. They will aid in facilitating the operations of the membership program, fulfilling merchandise orders, running errands for the office (car required), as well as administrative duties such as data entry and general day-to-day phone calls (customer service a plus!).

Script Competition Intern: Script Competition Department interns are primarily responsible for helping facilitate and execute Competition marketing initiatives, onboarding and assigning readers scripts, and frequently answering entrant questions via email and phone. Interns will get the opportunity to develop skills within the following areas: people and time management, customer support, and data compilation.

Film Competition Intern: Film Department runs the film competition and programs all films that screen during the festival and year round events. Interns will facilitate the processing of over 6,000 submissions, reviewing entries, marketing, build the slate, and coordinate with other AFF departments. Another facet of the internship is researching programming, marketing plans and general film industry trends. The department recruits 6-10 interns per session.

Executive Intern: The Executive Department is looking for flexible, organized, committed team players with a sense of humor to join our department. Applicants should be interested in both administrative and creative functions.

Young Filmmakers Program Intern: Works with the Director of the Young Filmmakers Program. Young Filmmakers Program Interns will aid in facilitating the operation of the four main Young Filmmakers Initiatives: Digital Storytelling, Summer Film Camp, Festival Scholarship Program, and the Young Filmmakers Competition. Tasks range from administrative duties such as in office research and data entry to programming support including screening competition films and managing Young Filmmakers panels.

Marketing Intern: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to assisting the Marketing Department with research, copy writing, grassroots efforts and internet marketing strategies. This includes working with social media, flyer design, event promotion, etc. Researching, compiling, and updating media lists, tracking media hits and archiving. During the Festival: Assisting with the Press Room, flyer distribution, red carpets, social media, and more.

Volunteer Department Intern: Assist the Volunteer Manager and Coordinator with managing, organizing and preparing materials for the Festival. Responsibilities include: drafting emails, creating documents, helping with inventory, administrative needs, as well as attending volunteer orientations. During the Festival: Interns will assist supervisors by making sure venue needs are met. They will also act as an extension of the Volunteer Management Team.

Registration Intern: Registration Interns will assist the Registration Director before and during the festival. They assist with registration database management, organizing registration materials (badge and film pass purchases/changes/transfers), and communicating with and fielding questions from festival attendees. They will also play a very important role in updating records before, during, or after the festival. We must track each step of a transaction so attention to detail is pivotal.

Festival Logistics Intern: The Festival Logistics Intern will be part of the Venue and Logistics team, helping organize and run the staging elements of the 30th Austin Film Festival. The Venue and Logistics team works with every department inside of the Austin Film Festival in order to support and help execute the inspiring programming that makes up hundreds of events and showings the Festival offers.

Qualifications

Must be able to work in-person at our office in East Austin. Must be in college or recently graduated.
