Communications and Social Media Intern - NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists

NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists is a journalist-led association working within the news media to advance fair and accurate coverage of LGBTQ+ communities and issues. We promote diverse and inclusive workplaces by holding the industry accountable and providing education, professional development and mentoring.
We envision fair representation and respect of diverse LGBTQ+ communities in newsrooms and news coverage.

Interested in journalism, digital marketing, social media, communications and the LGBTQ+ community? Come be a part of our tight-knit team! As our Communications intern, you'll play an integral role in developing and driving our social media strategy. You'll receive hands-on, on-the-job experience, the freedom to pursue your own ideas and projects, tailored feedback on your work, fantastic networking opportunities, and a warm, welcoming workplace. You'll get insight into the daily operations of a small non-profit, and come away with an understanding of what it takes to keep a membership organization humming. This position can be performed virtually or on a hybrid, in-person basis.

Duties
Assist the Communications Associate in developing and executing a strategy for the NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists National Convention and Student Conference and benefit events, as well as day-to-day communications
Pitch and develop ideas for social media marketing and engagement campaigns
Write and edit copy for press releases, social media posts, website content, newsletter blurbs and more
Actively monitor and assist in producing content for NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists social media channels
Work independently to produce content for the NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists weekly e-newsletter
Assist in updating databases of contacts
Assist with other communications responsibilities

Qualifications

Rising college sophomore, junior or senior seeking a degree in Marketing, Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, English or related field.
Familiarity with Google Suite.
Excellent oral and written skills, ability to edit/proofread using Associated Press guidelines a plus.
Must work well in a team-oriented environment.
Must be detail oriented and able to manage multiple projects at once.
General interest in additional aspects of Marketing and Communication a plus.
Demonstrate a working understanding of, and interest in, LGBTQ+ issues.
Non-profit, Journalism or Public Relations experience preferred.
