Communications Intern - Tony’s Place

Tony's Place is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering LGBTQ+ youth ages 14–25 through affirming services, including case management, health and wellness programming, housing navigation, community engagement, and a welcoming resource center.

Position Summary
Tony's Place is seeking a creative, organized, and passionate Communications Intern to help tell the stories of our organization and amplify our impact throughout the community. This internship provides hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, marketing, public relations, fundraising, and digital media while helping raise awareness of the critical services Tony's Place provides to LGBTQ+ youth.

The ideal candidate is an excellent writer with strong attention to detail, creativity, and a passion for social impact.

Primary Responsibilities
Content Creation
• Write engaging content for social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok.
• Assist with photography and videography of programs and special events.
• Develop graphics using Canva or similar design platforms.
• Draft newsletters, blog posts, and website content.
• Create promotional materials for programs, fundraising events, and community outreach.

Marketing & Public Relations
• Assist with marketing campaigns for fundraising events and community initiatives.
• Help maintain and update the Tony's Place website.
• Research community calendars and submit events for promotion.
• Assist with media outreach and press release development.
• Monitor media coverage and social media engagement.

Storytelling & Impact
• Interview staff, volunteers, partners, and (when appropriate) clients to capture success stories.
• Assist with collecting testimonials and impact data.
• Help develop annual reports, donor communications, and program highlights.
• Support the creation of videos and visual storytelling pieces.

Fundraising Communications
• Assist with sponsor recognition and donor stewardship materials.
• Help prepare fundraising appeals and campaign communications.
• Support promotional efforts for Tony's Place's annual signature fundraiser and other special events.

Administrative Support
• Maintain communication calendars.
• Organize digital media files and photo libraries.
• Track communication metrics and prepare basic reports.
• Assist with other communications-related projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current undergraduate or graduate student in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design, English, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Photography or video editing experience is a plus.
