Social Media Intern - Barrio Dogs

Barrio Dogs is a 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization dedicated to creating a better future for animals and the community. Barrio Dogs has been working in Houston’s Greater East End since 2010 with the mission of raising awareness about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering pets.

Internship Description

Barrio Dogs is seeking a motivated Student Social Media Intern. This internship is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on learning in nonprofit social media strategy, content creation, and community storytelling. The intern will be supervised by Lynn Rodriguez and will support communications efforts for a long-standing, community-based nonprofit serving Houston’s East End.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled University of Houston student, preferably in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field.

• Strong writing skills and familiarity with major social media platforms; Canva experience is a plus.

• Spanish-language fluency is a plus but not required.

• Interest in nonprofit communications, community engagement, or animal welfare.

• Organized, dependable, and able to work independently with guidance.
