Job Description

The Communication and Marketing Department at the University of Houston Law Center is seeking a talented and enthusiastic communications intern to join our team. This role will involve supporting the college’s marketing and communication efforts through creative and compelling articles, timely event coverage, student-focused social media posts, and other digital content.

This internship will provide hands-on experience and mentorship in the field for credit and is not paid. However, if the student is eligible for College Work Study, we also have paid positions available on Cougar Pathways. Student should be able to work 10 to 20 hours a week -- we will work with the student's schedule.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for story telling in various formats, a solid understanding of social media, a keen eye for design and the ability to work effectively within a team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Content Creation: Assist in planning, writing and scheduling content – articles, short videos, photography and more – for the UHLC website and various social media platforms.

  • Event Support: Participate in and support communication efforts at key UHLC events.

  • Trend Monitoring: Stay updated on social media and digital communication trends, incorporating them creatively into our content strategy.

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with team members to execute the Law Center’s communication strategy, providing support at events and during campaigns.

  • Project Management: Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines efficiently.

Qualifications

Looking for sophomores and juniors majoring in strategic communication, public relations or journalism with excellent written, visual and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent written, visual and oral communication skills.

  • Experience with Associated Press editorial style and UH editorial style.

  • Experience designing and disseminating written content in digital channels.

  • Competence with major social media platforms (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and LinkedIn).

  • Basic-to-intermediate video and photography skills.

  • Strong self-starter mentality with the ability to work collaboratively with the team.

  • Genuine interest and love of storytelling and news writing.

  • Curiosity about digital communications and media trends, and a willingness to take creative risks in consultation with the team.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Optional: Experience with Associated Press editorial style and UH editorial style.
