Communication Assistant - Student Worker -University of Houston Marketing and Communications
We are the department of Executive and Internal Communications for the University of Houston. Our team produces numerous communications for our internal audience of faculty, staff and students, as well as outreach to key UH stakeholders. A few of our primary publications include UH Today, CoogCARES and UH Magazine. Our team is also responsible for a number of executive-level communication activities for UH leadership and frequently collaborates with the University's marketing team and social media team. This is a part-time, paid, in person role.
Job Duties
This position would be an immersive learning experience for a student interested in furthering their knowledge of internal and external university communications, public relations, and/or higher education marketing. The selected applicant will be involved in communication/content creation in all stages of development, including research and organization, writing and editing, and distribution. This is a position that provides the opportunity to supplement a creative portfolio for future employment. Work may include individual work and teamwork, depending on the needs of the project.
Some of the projects that the selected applicant will be assigned include:
• Copy Writing
• Research
• Copy Editing
• Interviewing Sources
• Online Newsletter Production
• Data Entry and Analysis
• Meeting Protocols
• Special Projects: Provides support and assumes other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
• Interest in journalism, communications and public relations, plus demonstrate strong written/oral communication skills
• Intermediate level of Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Proficiency in AP Stylebook usage
