Step-Up Internship Program - Harris County Precinct 2
What you will do for Harris County Precinct 2:
The Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioners Office (HCP2CO) Step-Up Internship Program provides high school seniors and current college students with the opportunity to earn as they learn while serving the citizens of Precinct 2 as well as other areas in Harris County.
The internship program will include problems that are both challenging and complex as well as serve in areas that have a positive impact on the residents, employees, and visitors of Harris County Precinct 2. The internship will run from June 8th, 2026 to August 7th, 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will work on assignments and projects provided to them by their supervisor that might encompass, but will not be limited to performing the following:
Clerical duties
Answering phones
Available departments include:
Information Technology
Educational & Recreational Programming
Community Relations
Human Resources & Safety
Purchasing and Finance
Legislative Policy
Public Health Services
Development (Grants)
Communications
Veteran Services
Engineering
Public Works and others Departments
Maintaining files
Working with clients / general public
Event planning and coordination
Learning department specific technical skills
Other duties as needed.

Requirements
Internship Requirements:
Be 18 years old at the time of application submission
Be a high school senior or currently enrolled in a college/university or in a trade / technical program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Work in a cooperative manner to achieve goals set by the Workforce Division staff or the field supervisor.
Ability to answer and direct phone calls in a friendly and professional manner.
Advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to learn new systems as needed.
Ability to problem solve.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work well with all levels of management, staff, and other departments as well as a diverse group of constituents.
Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.
Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
Ability to multi-task.
Maintain discretion and confidentiality.
Maintain a valid Texas class C driver’s license as needed per individual department and have a good driving record.
