Mpower YOU is a Houston-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth, individuals, and families through financial education, social emotional learning, and community enrichment activities. Position Overview

The Communications Intern will support Mpower YOU’s marketing, outreach, and digital communication initiatives. This role is ideal for students or emerging professionals seeking hands-on experience in content creation, social media strategy, storytelling, and nonprofit communications. The intern will play a key role in elevating our mission, strengthening community visibility, and engaging participants through compelling, clear messaging. They will gain real-world experience in nonprofit marketing, storytelling, and digital communication. There will also be opportunities to build a strong portfolio with writing samples, graphics, and campaign contributions.

Key Responsibilities


• Draft, edit, and publish content for social media platforms, newsletters, and the Mpower YOU website.
• Design engaging graphics, videos, and digital materials using Canva or other creative tools.
• Assist with planning, scheduling, and monitoring social media posts and engagement.
• Help maintain a consistent, mission-aligned brand voice across all communication channels.
• Support email marketing efforts, including crafting announcements and program updates.
• Contribute to storytelling initiatives by gathering participant stories, testimonials, and event highlights.
• Track analytics for social media and email campaigns and prepare basic reports.
• Assist with photography and videography during programs and events (as needed).
• Perform general administrative tasks related to communications and outreach.

Qualifications

• Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok).
• Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools (preferred but not required).
• Basic video editing knowledge is a plus.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks independently.
• Interest in youth development, financial literacy, community impact, and nonprofit communication.
• Willingness to learn, collaborate, and contribute creative ideas.
