Communications and Events Intern - Houston Auto Show & Houston Auto Dealers Association

The Houston Auto Dealers Association represents the 190 new vehicle franchised dealerships in greater Houston and produces the Houston Auto Show annually. The organization works with local dealerships to represent them within the community, legislatively, and brings the industry together for special events.

Job Description

Are you a creative, motivated communications student looking to gain real-world experience in media, events, and marketing? Join the Houston Auto Dealers Association (HADA) and play a key role in promoting one of Houston’s largest consumer events — the Houston Auto Show — while supporting the association’s dynamic programs year-round. We’re looking for a Communications & Events Intern to create fresh, high-impact digital content, help manage member communications, and work hands-on at signature events.

Responsibilities include:


Digital Content Creation & Social Media

  • Brainstorm, storyboard, and film social media video content including Reels, teaser videos, influencer collabs, and behind-the-scenes features for the Houston Auto Show and EVOLVE, our electric vehicle showcase

  • Assist with drafting engaging captions and publishing on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok

  • Track social media metrics and suggest content ideas based on trends

Marketing & Event Support

  • Help promote fall and winter events including:

  • Fall Ride & Drive Experience

  • October Membership Luncheon

  • Technician Competition

  • 2026 Houston Auto Show (Jan 28–Feb 2)

  • On-site event assistance: content capture, registration check-in, exhibitor support, and more

Communications & Administration

  • Assist in managing and updating the HADA Member Directory

  • Help create and format member e-newsletters and email blasts

  • Assist with press release drafting, media outreach prep, and proofing materials

  • Organize and archive event photography, press mentions, and media coverage

Other Opportunities

  • Participate in brainstorming meetings with our creative, events, and marketing teams

  • Conduct research on automotive trends, EV news, and sponsorship opportunities

  • Support post-event recaps and performance reports

  • Help prepare materials for sponsor meetings and board presentations

Qualifications

  • A junior or senior studying Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field

  • Highly creative and comfortable filming/editing video content with your phone or basic equipment

  • A confident communicator who enjoys both writing and talking to people

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to a small but mighty team

  • Available to work 5–10 hours/week in Sugar Land, with increased availability during major events

  • Availability to travel around Houston, visiting local dealerships

  • Comfortable working some evenings/weekends as needed for event days

  • Experience using Canva, CapCut, or other content creation tools/Social media experience through school, clubs, or personal brand

  • Photography/videography skills and a good visual eye

  • Experience writing press materials such as press releases, media alerts or pitch letters
