Buster Haas Memorial Internship Program - Texas Managing Editors
The Buster Haas Memorial Internship Program, named after the late Buster Haas, a Dallas Morning News assistant managing editor for 32 years, aims to increase the number of journalists from underserved communities in newsrooms across Texas. The program is sponsored by Texas Managing Editors.
COMMITMENT FROM TME TO INTERNS
TME places interns in Texas newsrooms for 10-week summer internships. Students receive $6,000, including a $4,500 stipend, $1,000 for living expenses and, upon successful completion of the internship, an additional $500 scholarship.
COMMITMENT FROM INTERNS TO TME
Candidates should have a genuine interest in being selected as a Buster Haas intern. Interns must commit to conducting themselves to the highest professional and journalistic standards in their host newsrooms and in the communities served by the newspapers. Each candidate must have a reliable car for their internship.
APPLICATION PROCESS
All applicants must:
Complete the internship application.
Submit a one-page resume detailing any previous journalism experience and listing contact information for references.
Submit a cover letter explaining what your career goals are and how the internship would help you meet them.
Submit two letters of recommendation.
Share links to three to five published works. (Campus publications are acceptable.)
