Fall Health Promotion Intern - Vecino Health Centers

Location: Northeast Houston (Hybrid: Remote + Onsite)
Time Commitment: 10 hours week for 10 weeks
Compensation: College credit available in compliance with the UH Communication Department

About the Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level communication student interested in community health and health care access. As a Health Promotion Intern, you’ll play a vital role in two key projects aimed at strengthening community engagement and enhancing patient experience at a health center in Northeast Houston.

Key Responsibilities

1. Digital Marketing Campaign

Work with staff and hands-on marketing consultant for the organization to design and launch a test digital marketing campaign aimed at raising awareness and driving engagement with a specific health service via Facebook, Instagram, and Google Ads. Duties include:

  • Conducting patient-centered research to understand perceived value of the service

  • Assisting in defining campaign goals and strategy

  • Writing and testing ad copy (A/B testing)

  • Collaborating on visuals using Canva

  • Monitoring campaign performance and preparing a final report on effectiveness

2. Get to Know Your Providers Project

Work with staff and hands-on marketing consultant to help patients connect with providers by showcasing their backgrounds, education, and interests through internal communication tools. Duties include:

  • Drafting text for physician rack cards and digital lobby slides

  • Formatting cards and slides using a Canva template

Additional Duties:

  • Support patient engagement events at the health center

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Senior pursuing a degree in Communication

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates strongly preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Canva

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
