About the Lab
The Media Education Lab is a public benefit corporation that advances the practice of media literacy education through leadership development, research and scholarship, and community engagement.
As an online global learning community, we work collaboratively with people from across the United States and around the world on three foundational initiatives:
Leadership Development: We work with educators, librarians, researchers, graduate students, and creative media professionals to advance media literacy initiatives and programs in K-12 and higher education as well as in other learning contexts. We offer educational programs, training and professional development opportunities for current and emerging leaders from the United States and around the world.
Research and Scholarship: We advance new knowledge in the field through research and scholarship, examining how media literacy education is implemented and how it is assessed for impact and effectiveness. We provide a wealth of resources, including research reports, white papers, and interactive media to explore the ongoing practice of media literacy education in a variety of contexts.
Community Engagement: Through online and in-person events, we build a warm and trusting community of practitioners, scholars, and advocates, helping to promote its inclusion in educational policies and programs.
Founded in 2003 by Renee Hobbs, the Media Education Lab has a distinguished track record in cultivating and supporting leaders in media literacy from nearly all 50 states and more than 15 countries around the world. We invite you to join us!
