Marketing and Social Media Intern - The Health Museum
The John P. McGovern Museum of Health & Medical Science, also known as The Health Museum, is an interactive science center located in the heart of Houston’s Museum District. Position Summary
Marketing is responsible for supporting outreach and communication efforts, including social media, digital content, and community engagement. Candidates are expected to be creative, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while meeting deadlines. A flexible schedule with some weekend or evening events may be required.
· Assist with the design and execution of social media campaigns
· Assist the museum’s social media calendar to promote on-going exhibits, events and programs on various channels (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube)
· Offer input on social media campaigns
· Support marketing team at museum events
· Respond to comments and DMs on social media platforms
· Brainstorm and research ideas for original content
· Write engaging social media captions
· Work within departments to create and edit short-form videos to share across social platforms
· Assist with photo/video content shoots
· Adhere to the museum’s branding/promotional messages
· Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns
Required Skills
· Familiarity with social platforms; be able to work in Canva for graphics and CapCut for video editing; ability to work independently and present creative ideas; ability to work with various staff to create ideas and posts.
· Will have access to the museum cameras, video camera, I-phone and various equipment and software needed for the job. School or personal computer and email access will be needed as the museum does not have those provisions for interns.
· Will receive an ID card and parking/access card temporarily while working at the museum.
· We can work with your school schedule with flexible hours while ensuring you meet your class goals and objectives. This would ideally require time at the museum each week to gather your creative content (photos and videos) and status while planning, creating the schedule, editing and posting could be done remotely.
