The Houston Association of Producers Mentorship Program
The Houston Association of Producers (HAP) is now accepting applications for its new Mentorship Program!
The HAP Mentorship Program is a strategic initiative that aims to address the critical workforce needs in the Houston film industry by identifying and training the next generation of production professionals and creating a pipeline from the classroom to the set.
The program will be implemented over three phases - training, shadowing and apprenticeship. Colleges and film institutions such as yours will train students in the classroom, teaching them basic set operations, protocols and safety. Once the students have completed their classroom training, they can apply to our mentorship program. If selected, they will be partnered with a professional mentor who they will shadow on-set for two days. After they’ve completed the shadowing, the student will then be placed on a production as a paid apprentice under their mentor for three production days. This will allow the student to gain practical, on-set experience while making a little bit of money. Equally as important, it will allow them to make valuable connections with local producers and production crew so they can continue working beyond the mentorship program.
This apprenticeship is ONLY FOR ENTRY-LEVEL CREW POSITIONS. We are not mentoring screenwriters, directors, cinematographers or producers. We are looking for candidates who are serious about learning a production-related trade and are willing to put in the time and effort to learn the skills they need to succeed.
