Social Media Intern - Children's Nutrition Research Center, Baylor College of Medicine

The Houston USDA/ARS Children's Nutrition Research Center is located within the heart of the Texas Medical Center and is a leader in the promotion of nutritional health. The CNRC conducts basic and clinical research that represents the vibrant and diverse scope of childhood nutrition. Studies carried out at the CNRC investigate molecular mechanisms of metabolic diseases, human nutrition and metabolism, plant physiology, epidemiology, and community-based health. The CNRC houses laboratories supported by state-of-the-art equipment, room calorimeters, a greenhouse, a metabolic kitchen, multiple observation labs, as well as accommodations for research volunteers.

Internship Description

We are looking for two interns to dedicate at least six hours/week to serve as social media interns to assist the Children's Nutrition Research Center (CNRC) at Baylor College of Medicine in developing a social media presence. The goal of establishing a social media presence is to "Elevate the Children’s Nutrition Research Center’s digital presence to highlight our research, faculty and trainees, and our resources to the academic community as well as the greater Houston community." This initiative is overseen by the CNRC's website committee which is chaired by Dr. Erica Soltero, who will serve as the direct supervisor for the interns. This is an exciting opportunity for interns to gain applied experience in developing systems and processes for helping a high-impact research institution join the social media landscape. There is a lot of opportunity to be creative and lead in this initiative as we are starting from ground zero. The responsibilities that these students will be involved in, include:


• Engage with marketing and brand management at BCM to understand branding guidelines.
• Assist in development of marketing and brand management guidelines for the CNRC
• Assist in development of social media posting guidelines at CNRC
• Develop templates for monthly postings in Canva/Adobe: Faculty Spotlight, newsletter spotlight, trainee spotlight
• Contribute to content generation
• Contribute to development of monthly content calendar
• Attend website committee meetings to receive feedback, interact with faculty to understand social media needs and contribute to the growth and development of the CNRC’s social media presence
• Review online analytics.

Qualifications

Communications major with some experience in social media management or content contribution.
