IABC Houston Downs Matthews Memorial Scholarship

The IABC Houston Student Scholarship is in memory of Downs Matthews, ABC, IABC Fellow, and founding member of IABC Houston. Downs, who passed away in 2014, was a consummate communicator and role model for many IABC members throughout his stellar career. He helped set the standard of excellence for organizational communication in Houston and around the world. We are so proud to continue to honor him every year with a scholarship award. 

Who is Eligible?

Undergraduate and graduate student applicants should be majoring in communications (or a related) field, and either be attending a Houston-area institution or hail from the Houston area. Scholarship assistance is based upon academic performance, leadership potential, and financial need.

The Downs Matthews Memorial Scholarship is a one-time award. IABC Houston pays scholarship funds directly to the student. Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, color, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation.

Deadline to apply is April 17, 2026, 5pm.
